Deep Tissue Massage
An intensive massage treatment using stronger massage techniques to manipulate excessively ‘stressed’ soft tissue structures. The treatment targets taut and fatigued muscles and aims to increase range of movement and locate painful ‘knots’ which can cause pain either at rest or during movement.
Deep tissue massage is particularly helpful for:
- Neck and shoulder pain
- Low back pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome/RSI
Myofascial Release (MFR)
A treatment using no oil, this is a non-invasive technique which focuses on loosening restricted connective tissue (fascia). Fascia is a global network of tissue that surrounds every muscle fibre, every organ. Fascia is tough and responds in a different way to muscles, so techniques are performed slowly to allow time for the tissue to respond without force.
Myofascial release is particularly beneficial for:
- Lumbar compression
- Temporomandibular Jaw Syndrome (TMJ)
- Increasing range of movement
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are ‘knots’ that hurt and can cause pain. This massage targets those areas using sustained pressure (within your tolerance) until the discomfort reduces and the tightness dissipates.
Trigger point therapy is particularly beneficial for:
- Frozen shoulder
- Myofascial pain syndrome
- Numbness/tingling in arms or hands
Hot Stone Therapy
Pure indulgence! A massage using heated basalt stones. If you’ve ever used a hot water bottle or a wheat bag to try and ease that aching back or stiff neck, then you’ll understand the concept of working with heat during massage. The heat allows a greater ability for soft tissue to ‘melt’, enabling a relaxing but effective massage targeting areas of chronic pain.
Hot stones are beneficial for:
- Stress and anxiety
- General tightness & stiffness
- All chronic pain conditions
This is the gentlest technique that I offer within a treatment. It is performed over clothes and a gentle resting of the hands on the body enables a strong sense of relaxation, which I liken to a meditative state. Extreme relaxation can be a common side effect of this treatment!
Craniosacral Therapy is particularly helpful for:
- Chronic fatigue syndrome
